Frequently Asked Questions

How do I verify my phone number?

During signup, you'll receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS. Enter this code in the app to verify your phone number. If you don't receive a code within a few minutes, check that you entered the correct phone number and try again. If issues persist, contact support.

Why does friendsof need access to my contacts?

friendsof's core feature is showing you who knows who in your network. We use your contacts to build a connection graph showing relationships up to 3 degrees of separation. We convert phone numbers into secure hashes before uploading and never store contact names. Contact sync is optional and can be done manually—we never sync contacts in the background.

How do I control who sees my posts?

When creating a post, you can set the visibility level:

You can also set default visibility preferences in your settings.

Who can message me on friendsof?

Your 1st-degree connections can message you directly. Beyond that, messaging is tied to posts: if someone expresses interest in (or reposts) something you've posted, or you're interested in something they've posted, either of you can start a message request. The recipient can accept or decline it — once accepted, you can have full conversations.

How do I delete a post?

Tap on your post, then tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner. Select "Delete Post" from the options. You can also archive posts to hide them from your feed without permanently deleting them.

Can I control who can repost my content?

Yes! When creating a post, you can choose whether to allow reposting. You can also block specific users from reposting specific posts. Your repost preferences can be set as defaults in your settings.

How do I revoke contact access?

Go to your iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts → friendsof, and toggle off the permission. This will prevent the app from accessing your contacts. Your existing connection graph will remain until you delete your account.

How do I enable or disable location services?

Go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → friendsof. You can choose "Never," "Ask Next Time Or When I Share," or "While Using the App." Location is used when you choose to tag a post's location, and to power location-based searches (e.g. "near me"); see our Privacy Policy for details.

How does the connection graph work?

When you sync your contacts, friendsof matches your hashed phone numbers against other users. This creates direct connections (1 degree). The app then maps out who your friends are connected to (2 degrees), and their connections (3 degrees), creating a visual map of your social network. This helps you discover mutual friends and understand how you're connected to others on friendsof.

How do I report inappropriate content or behavior?

In-app reporting and blocking tools are coming soon. In the meantime, if you see content or behavior that violates our Terms of Service, please email jacob@alllowercase.co with details (a link to the post/profile and a description of the issue is helpful). We review every report and take appropriate action, which may include content removal or account suspension.

Can I download my data?

Yes! You can request a copy of your data by emailing jacob@alllowercase.co. We'll provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days. This includes your profile information, posts, messages, and connection data.

How to Delete Your Account

Warning: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

To delete your friendsof account, email jacob@alllowercase.co with "Delete My Account" in the subject line. Please include your registered email address and phone number for verification. An in-app self-service deletion option is planned for a future update.
